Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) is a State College located in Palompon, Leyte. It has established linkages with both public and private agencies here and abroad especially in the field of maritime studies. It also boosts with high-end facilities and invests heavily on IT software and equipment. In fact, just like CIT-U, PIT has purchased the School automate system to computerize the college transactions. Despite the mentioned strengths, the PIT library that houses thousands of books is not yet automated resulting to Inefficient maintenance & monitoring of book purchases, subscriptions, catalogs, fine collections, books borrowed and returned among others. Moreover, Students find it hard to determine the availability and location of a particular book. It is from this premise that the Library Circulation Management System was developed.
LCMS is a web application that acts as circulation monitoring system capable of tracking and managing all library transactions efficiently thereby helping librarians to reduce if not eliminate the inaccuracies in manual method. With the aid of LCMS, proper storage of books and other reading materials will also be promoted by the system to maintain their security as well as book details and information will also be digitally preserved thus tracking of borrows and returns will be easy. The LCMS features 4 modules namely: Manage Account, Search Record, Book Borrowing System, and Report Generator. With the aid of LCMS, the librarian who acts as system administrator can add and update student profile and books information, add and manage books circulation in the library, create/print book barcode inventory by subject, and issue books for borrowing. The students, faculty, and staff referred to as the library users are privileged to search books by subject, title and author and view its availability and specific location. Likewise, they can view their user account reflecting books borrowed, return due dates, and fines among others. The LCMS was subjected to user acceptance survey with the librarian and library staff as respondents using a CIT-U standardized research instrument. Result of the survey showed that the LCMS is "Highly Usable". Among the recommendations cited for future improvements were: add data visualization and statistics on frequently borrowed books.
