Harmonic distortion has a large impact to contributing losses in different elements of power system such as transformer and cables without any productivity, and it causes increasing demand load in the electrical power system. A power quality analyzer is used to gather data of harmonic level at Point of Common Coupling (PCC), adjacent to distribution transformer, which the main electrical panel board and nonlinear loads that are considered as a source of harmonics. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and Individual Harmonic Distortion (IHD) were used as an indicator for statistical analysis. In this paper, a flexible optimization technique for designing a shunt harmonic filter was used to deal with different level of THDo/o caused by load variation. Genetic Algorithm has been used as an Optimization technique because the design of such filter can be regarded as a multi-criteria optimization task, to which genetic algorithms can be employed. Optimized filter implemented on a micro power system with large nonlinear loads. Result shows an optimized harmonic filter reduced 64.1% line losses and improved system power factor as well, while compare to capacitor bank only reduced up to 56.2% line losses, and can only improve power factor but worsen harmonic distortion UR - http://181.215.242.151/cgi-bin/koha/opac-retrieve-file.pl?id=fcfb0af8c00d8a6697c2d41fedb819d1 UR - http://181.215.242.151/cgi-bin/koha/opac-retrieve-file.pl?id=1145edd0a82cd8210437aaa30610eb72 ER -
