520 | 3 | _aDue to the ever-increasing human population and anthropogenic activities, the world and its inhabitants are facing a substantial dilemma for environmental and health crisis. This has gradually worsened because efficient waste management systems are not correctly implemented. Though, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003) in the Philippines had been enacted more than a decade ago, still the open dumping ofmunicipal solid waste is a common problem. This study aimed to identify a potential suitable landfill site in the city of Cagayan de Oro integrating GIS and LiDAR-derived dataset. The DENR Administrative Order No. 50 series of 1998 (DAO 1998-50) was used to evaluate the criteria in identifying the potential suitable landfill site in CDOC using the recommended measures in each criterion. Every criterion was converted to rasterized Boolean format where 1 is the suitable area while O is the unsuitable area. Using the overlay analysis (multiplicative method), every criterion was multiplied each other to produce a final result for potential suitable landfill site. Three potential suitable landfill sites were identified namely: the southern part of Barangay Lumbia, southern part of Barangay Cugman and middle part of Barangay Balubal. Thus, integrating GIS and LiDAR-derived dataset provides more reliable results in finding potential suitable landfill sites. It is recommended to use the updated GIS data for better results. The output of this research study could later be used to benefit the waste management team in improving an efficient solid waste management system | |
