Demotivation-motivation continuum theory in mobile-assisted language learning / Rivika C. Alda - Cebu City : Cebu Normal University ,2018. - ix, 115 leaves
Dissertation (Doctor of Education with Field of Specialization in English Language Teaching) -- Cebu Normal University, March 2018.
The widespread ownership of mobile devices paved the way for educational
institutions to reconsider teaching practices and strategies to accommodate the
integration of these tools in the classroom. This study was conducted to
investigate the influences of Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) strategy
in Senior High School English language instruction. The study utilized descriptive
research method through the use of researcher-made questionnaire to identify the
respondents' background knowledge in the use of mobile device and their regard
on MALL strategy. Results of the study show that students navigate and
manipulate basic features and functions of mobile devices that are mainly for
entertainment purposes and seldom for educational purposes. Moreover,
influencing elements in the implementation of MALL were also identified. An
emergent theory in ELT was also formulated based on the premise that certain
motivation and demotivation factors are considered in the adoption or non
adoption of MALL.
